AJ CLAUSS is a writer from Kentuckiana (Indiana + Kentucky) living in NYC. AJ's writing aims for a queer pastoral tenderness orbiting their own personal mythologies, stumbling into accidental beauty. AJ writes for community and communion, for the smell of the bonfire that sticks to everyone’s clothes,
the stories that remain.

AJ is a current member of  Youngblood, EST's Obie Award-winning writer's group for young playwrights; is a Still Standing Artist-in-Residence, and holds a BFA from the University of Evansville.

Currently AJ is in development on the screenplay SUPERBLOOM with co-creator Jason Sherwood. Plays include Salty (Lyra Theatre, NYC; ReAct Theatre, Seattle; & Desert Ensemble Theatre Co, Palm Springs 2022), Henry Makes A Bible (Alfred P. Sloan Foundation/EST Commission), When You Were Small
& others.

Launched in 2022, Stomping Ground produces professional plays in Small-Town America using a hybrid of local and professional artists. Our goal is to bring theatre to the people, while making the entire theatre-making process (from writing to production) feel local and accessible, & free to the public.
